I have heard a lot about this particular book ‘Still Alice’ but I’ve never tried to read it. Even though I got a placement in Alzheimer Society, I didn’t thought of reading it because I thought that I’m already dealing with clients related to dementia. I thought I have understood the issues and problems faced by the care givers and the person living with dementia. Little did I know that I’ll have to blog as a part of my assignment on the basis of reading a book related to any mental issue?
But to my surprise I selected this book and started to read the first book in my life…. a novel. More because I’ve seen the author of this book Lisa Genova in a Ted’s Talk and heard the way she expressed her ideas into my little brain to her level of thought, which was a bit like scientific. Astonishingly after a few minutes of her talk I could understand each and every word that she had spoken. So I decided to read her book.
Just as you guys now think I started reading and I completed the first chapter ‘September 2003’. Where Alice, a typical women of education and knowledge, is a great teacher who gives lecture in different places. She also has a wonderful family, with a caring husband and three grown children, which I came to know after reading the back side the book. In the first chapter she exhibits a slight, normal aging issue which is a small memory loss while lecturing that she thinks is not normal to her as she hadn’t experienced it ever before. John, her husband also shows this forgetfulness in the first chapter, making it confuse whether it’s she or John going to be diagnosed with dementia.
Now it’s getting a little bit exciting to read more for you guys just like as I am feeling, but it’s almost night so I’ve to sleep and read it later sometime.

This book could teach you a little more about this kind of illness in a different point of view, which could help you at your placement! Reading about this illness in someone else’s perspective could also help you understand it more! Glad you’re enjoying the book! Can’t wait to hear more!

Yes this book is amazing, it’s also a great help in my placement. Now I can empathize with people; both the care partner and the person living dementia.

I am very excited to follow your blog and interested in that you have never actually read a novel before. I too have a placement in which I work with Seniors who live with dementia. I will be interested to see what your perspective is. Enjoy!

Ya, well I haven’t read novels but I have read small books and religious books like the Bible. I do feel kind of sad for the person living dementia and for the care giver as well. I often wish if there were complete cure for dementia. But as usual there are some things that doesn’t have any answers …… but only have aimless or thoughtless opinions.
